Well, I'm back safely in California, after a 10-hour flight of slightly above-average pleasantness. The bookstore at the airport was sort of small, and for all the authors I was interesting in reading, the only books they had were ones I'd read already. So I ended up watching a bunch of movies on the plane instead, and the fact that they were mostly very good (Corpse Bride is a 9, as is K-PAX. Brothers Grimm, which I only saw the second half of, got a 7 based on what I saw, but presumably certain die-hard Terry Gilliam fans I know will take that as a hearty recommendation anyway) combined with getting an unexpected bump up to a business class seat made up for the lack of a book.
As long as I'm doing rapid-fire reviews, I'll get some books out of the way: Thud! is a very solid Pratchett 8 (he's done better, but he's done worse too), Surprised by Joy is also an 8, and Woken Furies is an 8 that would be a 9 except that it didn't feel like it had direction for most of the book. It did in fact have a direction (saving itself from a 7 or worse), but it wasn't a direction I was aware of until the end. (No, it wasn't as bad in that regard as FFVIII, but what is?)
In other news, I appear to still have the spare set of keys for my parents' house.
